The idea

An art-oriented activity where you unleash your creativity by drawing curves on a touchscreen. Your drawings are automatically colored using a mathematical trick — and you are invited to understand it, or to push it to its limits.

The collected curves are then turned into a structured universe, using a tool that measures how close two curves are to each other. It is your guide to building your own path through the space of paths.

The story

Life Lines grew out of a sonification project for Esch2022, European Capital of Culture. It has since evolved and been showcased at venues across Europe, at the World Expos in Dubai (Expo 2020) and Osaka (Expo 2025), and at the EPFL Pavilions in Switzerland.

From 16 October 2026 to 15 January 2027, Life Lines is part of the exhibition Shapes: Beyond Geometry at Cercle Cité in Luxembourg.

20 000+ drawings collected so far

Leave your trace and take part in building the largest structured collection of human drawings.

The Life Lines app is coming soon. Draw your own lines and explore the collection, wherever you are.
